A + TLetterpress Wedding Invitations
Though not Designapolis’ usual kind of work, we were happy to design the wedding invitation suite for a young Southern California couple. The weekend-long wedding took place at the Smoke Tree Ranch, one of the most historic properties in Palm Springs. Located just a few minutes from the Village of Palm Springs, the special enclave boasts the breathtaking natural beauty of the towering San Jacinto Mountains, low-lying brush, dessert flowers and tumbleweeds just south of the Mojave Desert. Enamored with the venue’s logo, the bride wanted something that referenced the Smoke Tree Ranch brand, and by brand we mean the hot iron a cowboy uses to mark his cattle; which is a design based on the letters S, T and R.
We used the first letters of the couple’s names, T and A, to create a bold, clean and simple graphic that when enlarged or repeated becomes a powerful statement of contemporary elegance. The interior negative space of the letters form two i’s, an abstract symbol of the couple side by side, inside a square, symbolic of an altar or house. The new brand was repeated to create a pattern which was used on the Save the date and Wedding response cards. The invitations were hand letter pressed on 100% cotton white card stock using buttercup and warm gray inks. White ink was chosen to contrast on the indigo outer invitation and reply envelopes.
